ESR METER IS READY FOR TECHNICANS

Hi dear repair friends
I am happy to present my own designed ESR Meter to you in Electronic repair articles.I have written many number of articles saying the Effectiveness of  this instrument.I think many repair case history have realizes how it worked.
My self as a repair technician i have impressed with this instrument & tried to purchase in the local market.But its availability is zero. Meany shop vendors dose not know about this instrument in local.I don't want to specify here the shop name area ect.
Here my main intention is to reach this instrument to all of you and make your repair work easy.

Here i will make you understand & explain how to use this instrument effectively.
Myself as a user I tried this instrument to import(Bob parker,s ESR meter) but worried about cost and maintainance.
Searched other brand in internet but availability is very less. All this points made my mind to desgine my own circuit for this meter. Depending up on the user I have developed two kind of circuit
1) ANALOGUE TYPE: any one can convert analog multimeter to analogue esr by simply connecting to vom present in the meter.
2)DIgital type: This type is designed for good
 result like exact reading and good digital display.
In my previous article I have written every thing about this instrument and its repair success story. I don't want to repeat it again & again if you want to re-fresh then you can click the link below.


Next coming to design hear first i am introducing
Analog type circuit later on I am going to present digital ESR in coming days.
What are all the advantages???
1) Easily any one (technicians) can convert cheap readily available analogue multimeter in to      valuable capacitor police ESR meter.
2) Components are used cheap which are readily available in local market including battery.
3) Battery low warning circuit is included in the design so that wrong reading from the instrument is avoided.
4) Both PCB/Assembled meter available depends up on your requirement.
5)If meter fails working you can repair yourself because I have not included micro controller. Here used Components cost is very cheap so that you can replace easily.

LG DVD player NO-DISC Complaint now revealed

Hi Friends,

 Wel-come to the wealth of knowledge Electronic repair articles

Today let me reveal how i repaired LG DVD  player NO-DISC  Complaint.
Before coming to this topic i would like to put word on this NO-DISC/DISC ERROR.

NO-DISC  Complaint is quite common in almost DVD.Many repair guide or Technical documents says the solution to change the lens assembly or adjust the spindle pan height,motor,Filter caps related to motor driver sections  etc.
Really its very headache job.Some of the DVD I was not able to solve doing all the above activities. Many time i am asking myself then what could be a problem?
Even i wasted a lot of time and money  by simply changing the driver ics  .After this i was not happy since i failed to solve the NO-DISC Complaint completely.Many mails and phone calls communicated with an experts but no use they are giving same solution what i said above.
Eighty percent of the complaint solves when we follow above steps but some of them will fail But,my concern what is the hidden secrete apart from that to solve no disc complaint 100% below is the story.
                                                ONE CAME FOR REPAIR
One of my friend brought the LG DVD Having complaint NO-Disc error. Since its a known story i was not so confident that i can solve this 100%. As usual checked lens assembly's servo activity found ok.Cleaned the lens,checked the spindle pan height found ok.Checked all the electrolyte capacitors carrying voltages and signals to Disk mechanism but no use. 

But this is the most challenging task for me.Once if i solve this i will get an answer & can realize the secrete beyond this.Next i wanted to conform weather the fault is in PCB's side or loader assembly side.For my goodness i got same model LG DVD in working condition.Below are the points i made repair activity Using this working DVD.

1)First  Exchanged the disc machenisum worked excellent & happy to see this and  conformed no issue with in the PCB side.



2) Now swapped the Lens from working to non working   NO Result same disc error




3) Checked and compared the spindle/servo  Motor resistance on both DVD  found within the spec(ie 5ohms to 20 ohms)

Again confused  me when  the lens/motor showing ok  on both DVD then what is making disc error inside the machnisum.Any how i lost confident & made my mind to give up and about to reassemble.Finally i got a small clue to run the motor with my dc source.So i tuned to 5volts turned on & compared both motor current drawn status to my surprise i got huge difference in current consumption.Alas that's what i required.Now again i got confident to fix this.

 DEFECTIVE SPINDLE MOTOR DRAWING HUGE CURRENT WHEN CHECKED IN DC SOURCE

Defective spindle motor drawing more then 1ampers   @ 5volts as shown.If this is the case then how this driver ic SA5888 will supply such huge current .By looking this i got  huge clue as a secrete and got confident i can solve this.Replaced the good spindle motor(<300milli-amps current drawn) and checked.DVD Worked excellent i felt very happy to see this,hope you all enjoyed this article .Happy reading let us meet in next class take care.

DELL led monitor now repaired

Hi dear-repair friends wel-come again.

Today let me  reveal how i repaired  dead DELL Led monitor. Below is one came to repair brought one of my repair friend.
Usually i am getting  equipments for repair not only from end customer  but also  from other repair center.

ONE CAME FOR REPAIR BACK REMOVED
Since this monitor came from other repair bench i should ignore basic testings.Such kind of cases is not so easy to solve we need to think beyond basic.

Yes,what my concern guessed is correct.When i opened the chassis back cover & PCB some other technicians already worked on it.Many symptoms like loose screw,partially re-work on PCB etc can make out basic sections already checked.Now, i should consider this as a special case & should think beyond basics.
As per basic thumb rule i have gone for voltage testing methods to catch the culpirt.
Tested all the primary side voltages like big capacitor voltages,startup voltages etc found normal.Finally i suspected the power ic may be the cause for equipment dead.

Yes,my suspection is correct,There is a dead shorts between drain & source at TOP258PN.






Cross checked to conform through my FLUKE Meter in ohms range.






Pls go through the circuit below for your reference.Purchased the IC TOP258PN from the market,Replaced the same.



Powered on the monitor after replacing the Power IC TOP258PN .Happy to see the DELL OSD in the monitor.My operation is sucess delevered the coustmer who felt very happy after receiving this.

WHY DO REPAIR TECHNICIANS NEED ESR

Dear repair friends,

Once again i am coming back to you to introduce the term ESR (Equivalent series resistance) 

Looking above statement many questions in mind

1) Why do we need this ESR??

2) And again why it is so important for Repair /Trouble shoot work?

3) What is the instruments used to find ESR?

Generally there is a term"The rate of failure is proportional to Number of electrolytic Capacitors present in an Electronic equipment"

Yes, Based on my experiences 70% of electronic equipment failure due to capacitors. Then How to find defective caps?

Methods 

1)Using Analog Multimeter:-There was the day the method taught my father by using Analogue multimeter the pointer needle that goes to end & coming back to zero for good capacitors but this is not 100% correct.Because i failed to trouble shoot defective caps in many equipment.

2)Using Capacitor Meters:-With the introduction of expencive Capacitence meter i felt very happy so that this capacitor meter is the best Detective meter for electrolytic capacitor, Even this meter also not 100% correct. I failed to trouble shoots even in this method

3) Physical appeariance:-Mostly capacitors Bulges on defective it is Easy to identify. Some of the capacitors dry’s an electrolyte & increases their internal resistance without any physical changes. This kind of electrolyte is very difficult to identify even a capacitance meter measures correct but it fails to identify its internal ESR value. 
Most of the technicians based on their expierance replaces the caps if they get doubt while trouble shooting because of its cheap cost.

Then how to identify exactly faulty caps in an electronic circuit?? The answer is ESR meter

Yes, this meter is my favourite meter i will call this meter as capacitor police because within a fraction of minute it can catch the culprit.

After testing with ESR we can easily locate the faulty capacitor.

Pls go through below one of my Repair case History  to understand the effectiveness of this Instruments.
The first Repair success story with this instrument
We received a compliant from Onida crt TV for repair
the unit dead with standby LED ON
After opening the chassis found dual SMPS in this model
1) SMPS 1 used  for driving Audio section & micro-controller standby
2) SMPS 2 used to power up the rest of the sections through relay driving

As on trouble shooting i did not found 300V DC in main filter capacitor @ SMPS 2 back word trouble shooted
Relay is not activated checked the relay circuit found ok.
Now found relay driving voltage abnormal coming via micro-controller  now suspected on VCC line on micro
Found abnormal showing 5.5Volts DC instead of 8v DC the culprit is 8V filter capacitor 100mfd/25Volts.
When i checked with above ESR it is shown open. All this activity taken only 5 to 6 Minutes
Once again thanks to this great instrument I almost saved 90% of my repair time.
